AD also claimed that the response from the testers was not significant, so it wouldn't be worth producing.

If it were cost prohibitive, I assume they would have never produced the test-mixes. Perhaps they thought that Catlord had a secret recipe, but when it didn't set the world on fire, they just said it was too expensive.

Catlord was one out of how many members? How come it never made it back to market. It takers years to understand pheromones and how they work together. Even experienced user have an "Aha moment" after years of testing.
