I just typed out a bonzer thesis of a reply and I accidentally hit the mousepad and it acted as a back button and took me to the last webpage. Of course losing all the stuff I was just about to hit the post button on.
Later I'll get it all typed out.
Groan!
If you want, I can promise to be impressed and change my views and save you the trouble. ;-)

Well, Dexter never re-input his bonzer thesis.
... on a very related note I wonder if there's any way to titrate/quantify the mones in a mix, which would let us test evaporation rates quantifiably, at least.
Like say, if someone was given a sample with 5mcg of androstenone how would they figure out that there was 5mcg of androstenone in the mix? It's even better if the method could be generalized to all androstanes, so we wouldn't need a different method for each mone.
I saw one method which involved changing absorption spectra in DNA as the DNA reacted with particular androstanes. NASA was using it. But such a setup is far beyond the equipment that I have access to.
Theoretically mones could rotate polarized light. But practically, micrograms are probably too small a quantity to be significant, even if you had a long glass tube of the stuff.
I don't think there's any way to easily measure such small quantities using basic equipment.
When we finally get a wiki up and running, we can list the relevant info.

There was some discussion a while back somewhere about a laser based apparatus that was recognizing minute amounts of molecules based on light absorption spectrum analysis, and other than bioantennae arrays I don't know what else exists that could detect the molecules once vaporized. Some analysis using Gas Chromatography was discussed as well but the analysis was expensive and inconclusive.
