The capsules are 50mg pregnenolone with some variance. Considering the price ($6), I'd imagine that would be +/- 5mg. Under perfect conditions I would have a 500mg yield if they were exact. The 10 capsules together obviously amounted to more than 50mg.

I just weighed 10 whole capsules and the weights ranged from 244mg to 286mg.
If they are 2% pregnenolone, 250mg=50mg preg, 244=48.8, 286=57.2

Awesome, but I'm a bit confused with this one step. Adding water to an alcohol + mones mix caused the mones to precipitate? How do I get solubility info for something like this? I guess I missed this trick in chem lab. Did you warm the alcohol?

I see your vial is a little moist. Didn't you dry the neno before storing?

I think you could also have that neno through a mortar and pestle to fine grain it btw.

I washed and dried the vial with ethanol before I filled it. It's possible there was a little that remained though. What looks moist to you? I filled the vial with large flakes of preg and smashed it up with tweezers while it was in the vial, so there are both very small particles and large flakes in the vial. Maybe the particles and smears look like moisture? As far as drying it, I ran some 110C air from my rework station over the filter paper but it was already bone dry, so I didn't do it very long.

I thought about making it a fine powder, but figured the flakes would make it easier to weigh out 25mg increments to make 1mg/ml solutions (I use a 25ml volumetric flask).

Oh I see. I think the crystalised neno + light reflections gave me the impression that there was some sort of liquid in the vial.

Since I'm not separating solutes, I didn't worry about how much water, or heating and cooling. This would be important if another component of the pills were soluble in ethanol. The multi-solvent crystallization could obviously be replaced with boiling the ethanol off, but if I'm going to waste the ethanol anyway, it'd rather dump it down the drain than fill my house with fumes.
