I had an ex who also got crazy dreams from melatonin, just like Thundr. She had fibromyalgia/PTSD, though. So I don't think she's the average case. My dreams have been more vivid while on it, certainly, but I take that as a good sign. Dreaming and memory tend to be related to one another and a number of memory-related nootropics will increase the vividness of people's dreams.

I've looked into melatonin a bit, along with other sleep-related products since I've dated two girls with sleep issues. So far, I can't see any red flags for it. People don't form a strong tolerance to it the way they do most sleep promoting (GABAergic) drugs. Changing your sleep schedule is hugely stressful. Melatonin seems to help ease that stress.

I don't use it on a regular basis, but if my schedule is way off and I need to get to bed earlier the stuff is a godsend. It's not going to compel you to sleep, though, so if you take it and then try to stay up, you'll stay up.

I often wake up too early after taking it, though, then crash later in the day. I may need to look into extended release or something. Or take less.

Some people are drowsy in the morning because of it, but sunlight/bright full specturm light is supposed to fix that issue.

I should be more consistent... I don't take any of my supplements regularly...

Supplements I (sometimes) take....

Prenatal Vitamins... the folic acid does wonders for my hair, skin and nails

Regular Multivitamins... these and the prenates have B vites

Evening Primrose Oil

Garlic Capsules

L-Lysine

Probiotics

E7 in fruit smoothies- it's a blend of:

Minerals and Trace Minerals
Vegetables (including: cabbage, carrot, spinach, tomato, parsley, broccoli, beet, garlic, brussels sprouts, kale)
Polyphenols and phytonutrients galore, especially from RiSoTriene
Enzymes and Adaptogens
Fiber
Probiotics
High Quality, Easily Digested Protein (it goes into your tissues even when you’re stressed because it’s predigested)

Then often I mix this awful tasting powder in water... it contains:

bee pollen, jiaogulan, chamomile, ashwagandha, schisandra, tulsi, chlorella, DMAE, white tea, peppermint, alfalfa, wu-yi, rooibos, astragulus, nettle, ginger, cinnamon, garlic, clove, epimedium, essiac, sweet leaf, turmeric, cayenne, grape seed, kelp, fenugreek, flax, chia, oregano, borage, rose hips, horseradish, milk thistle, spirolina, barley grass, cumin, sage, lemon myrtle, orange peel, lemon peel.- just carefully dehydrated and powdered food to preserve phytonutrients, without any artificial colors, Western drugs, or adulterants.

Oh and sometimes I take Maca or this yummy powder called Vega in smoothies...

Aloe vera concentrate

Huperzine A- for learning and memory

Vinpocetine- promotes cerebral metabolism

Vitamineral Green- dude there is so much going on in there....

And then I take a bunch of other random stuff from time to time....

I was taking coral calcium for a while for the sake of the vitamin d and the magnesium

But then I went vegan for three months and I was thinking coral exoskelatin probably isn't vegan... but i did really like it while I took it for 2 years...

One of these days I'll grow up and start being consistent about all this stuff.

Thanks for posting this thread, Lovely Lexy. It really motivated me to think about some important stuff.

I vowed to never take it again as long as I live unless staying alive is the only reason I have to take it. lol

Nootropics are a very cool supp to take for focus and creativity, for me at least. They work well with my brain chemistry. I would take the whole family of racetams but they tend to get a bit pricey taking so many. So I just take the best I can swing. I would highly recommend looking into them further. Some ppl take choline supps with them but I eat about a dozen eggs a day so I meet my choline requirements easily no need for a supp there.

haha there were a million clever replies here but this is a supplement discussion so Ill b good for now and say thank you and yes that's me. lol
btw your hair is gorgeous. Love them curls. Yea I remembered that..

....and to think I was going to say that those 2 things on the side complement it very well! lol...but decided not to because I didn't know the name of them ....just googled it, they are called Trapezius muscles....

Where are you getting your Pramiracetam from? I checked online but many of those sites look a bit shady.

I've heard of ladies taking melatonin for anti aging along with Gaba. I believe Gaba is supposed to help with your natural HGH production? If there is any truth that Gaba helps release HGH I'm all over it. I had an ex who used to use it for body building. He always said that if used right, HGH was a wonder. He would inject it into his belly with an insulin needle, I was too chicken to let him inject me with it, but would not mind getting some naturally from a supplement. I have taken Clenbuterol tho, that stuff cuts up your body really nice, defines your muscles, but I read it's not supposed to be good for long term use.

I don't see any problem with;
100% gold standard protein
Creatine
Mega Men "Joint Dietary Supplement"

In regards to PTSD.

For what it's worth, Theanine is a nice well-tolerated GABAergic. It's an amino acid found in tea. You'll build a tolerance to it so have to cycle off it every two weeks or so, but it does help with restful sleep... fewer nightmares, etc. At least it helped my ex, and we tried a number of different things.

Quote:I have taken Clenbuterol tho, that stuff cuts up your body really nice, defines your muscles, but I read it's not supposed to be good for long term use.

I've never looked into clenbuterol.

Yeah, GABAergics at night are supposed to help with natural HGH production. HGH production also seems to require a hypoglycemic environment, so it's released after exercise or if you go to sleep hungry and your blood sugar is low. I suspect that this is a 'deliberate' adaptation, since HGH feeds cancer and so does sugar. It's better not to have the two present at the same time.

Theanine and Kava Kava are some of the more accessible and safer GABAergics. Melatonin has some GABAergic effects as well, but that's not the only mechanism it works by.

All the GABAergics I've heard of lead to tolerance and the harder ones to outright addiction. Theanine just leads to tolerance so you have to cycle on and off it. Kava Kava has never been proved to lead to tolerance, but it's practically a signature of GABAergics that they go that direction, so I assume the problem is there and they just haven't been able to show it yet.

Here's something showing that a GABA derivative increases HGH release.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8175969

I don't know what your ex was injecting but I don't blame you for not wanting to get stabbed. There are better ways, right?
