Okay, so there seems to be an interesting link between how people perceive mones and how people perceive the taste of alcohol, and this difference has implications for people's sexual behavior.

I hope that keeps people's attention for a paragraph or two, because I need to give some quick background info.

OR7D4 is one of the receptors that people use to smell mones like androstenone and androstadienone, and probably the best studied. It can become more sensitive with repeated exposure, but it's also influenced by genetics (apparently a single gene.)

So enter this little gem;

Quote:The flavor of ethanol was related to variation within an olfactory receptor gene (OR7D4) and a gene encoding a subunit of the epithelial sodium channel (SCNN1D).

Unfortunately only the abstract seems to be unavailable, but I'll search more on this later.

However that made me recall the following line from the OKCupid blog (which was just amazing till the company got sold to different owners.) The article is about getting information via indirect questions. In this case, gauging a person's sexual proclivities based on their opinion on the taste of beer.

Quote:No matter their gender or orientation, beer-lovers are 60% more likely to be okay with sleeping with someone they've just met.

Hmm... so if DHEA blocks the androgen and estrogen receptors (and likely OR7D4) and taste of alcohol is related to androstenone perception, I wonder what DHEA would do to the taste of alcohol?

Glenlivet tastes the same to me with or without supplementation of DHEA LOL. I think maybe for guys beer causes an increased desire to sleep with any female after midnight LOL. I would say for women it is not the choice of beverage as much as the amount of it and the comfort with their needs or desires more so than just beer that will allow that to happen, JMHO.
Thanks for the quick test. :-) You put the DHEA in the alcohol, I assume?

Yeah, but a person who likes the taste of alcohol seems more likely to drink more of it (beer or whatever). And a person who doesn't hate the taste of alcohol is more likely to like the taste of beer.
Nice find!
Interesting!

Did you just say DHEA could mask the smell of Androstenone?

Check out this post by Gslinger;

DHEA and smell is his train. I'm just trying to jump on board.

He notes 'diminished sense of smell' from DHEA and speculates it's an ingredient in Androtic's "stealth diffusion" mixes. Now I can't smell mones myself so I could be totally off base here. If so, apologies. But I know that DHEA blocks the androgen receptor (and activates it slightly.) I speculated that it might, therefore, reduce the smell of androstenone. Or maybe, as Gslinger notes, it just reduces all smells. I've certainly used some mones which seemed to enhance my sense of smell. How do they do that? I don't know. Dopamine modulation? Maybe. I'm still shooting in the dark here as far as a mechanism.

I do need to correct myself on the claim that DHEA blocks the estrogen receptors. It activates the Estrogen B receptor strongly (that's speculated to be a primary target of DHEA) and may have some activity with the A receptor as well.
Yo I'll get right on this !!

I've got DHEA and Androstenone, plus Domonationxs which is some heavy hitter, Lucky 7, ect.

what DHEA dose should I use ?

stick my nose in the DHEA bottle then just smell all the rest?
brain zap here I come !!

No clue at all, dude. But thanks for the help. I'm guessing probably test in the 5 mcg range or lower for alcohol based stuff. Or maybe it's "5x the amount of Androstenone that you use." Or whatever. If anyone has a different take on things? Since DHEA blocks the androgen receptor the question is probably "what's the minimum effective dose." You know? What's the smallest quantity that still has a decent impact?
so we are thinking DHEA is an androgen receptor agonist?

Ii just finally figured out what that really means btw lol no more nod and grin

of course that might be 2 posts bad and I'd still look like a dummy
edit think the forum screwed up that link maybe with autofill
