My favorite smelling cologne is Fierce by Abercrombie. As a 26 yr. old, professional man, I feel a little weird wearing it since so many teen guys wear it. I bought some various cologne oils from Hayward enterprises, I will give my opinion of each below so maybe you can help recommend something I haven't tried that I would like. I am looking for something that gets compliments and attracts women. Also keep in mind I have never smelled the originals of any of these, only the Hayward versions.

I will rate on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best. (I would rate Fierce a 10.)

Bond No. 9 NEW HAARLEM (unisex) type -- 6 (haven't wore yet)
Chanel ALLURE (men) type -- 6
Chanel ALLURE SPORT (men) type -- 6
1 MILLION (men)-Paco Rabanne type -- 7
AVENTUS (men)-Creed type -- 5
Dolce & Gabbana THE ONE (men) type -- 6
Dolce & Gabbana THE ONE SPORT (men) type -- 1
Millesime Imperial (men)-Creed type -- 1
Diesel ONLY THE BRAVE (men)-Diesel type -- 2
Chanel EGOISTE PLATINUM (men) type -- 4

What type of scent are you looking for though. Fruity? Spicy? Sweet? Musky? there are soo many options. I don't know what 1 million by PR smells like or Fierce by Abercrombie. You should go to a mall and get samples of some of the real fragrances. Is Fierce one of the perfumes that Abercrombie uses like Glade pluggins because I usually gag in those stores.

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - DGamer - 09-20-2012 3:35 AM

If you like Fierce, I think you should wear it.

My personal favorites are:
Terre d'Hermes by Hermes
Acqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani
L'Homme by YSL

While I know pretty much nothing about pheromones (working on that) I was pleased to see that there's a fragrance section here. Fragrances became a bit of a hobby for me along with wet shaving last year. So...

Based on your 2nd choice of 1 million, I'd recommend giving yourself a spray of A*Men/Angel Men next time you have the opportunity. http://www.basenotes.net/ID26120034.html
Like 1 million it's a bit of a younger guy's fragrance, and both are sweet cotton candyish gourmand fragrances, at least to my nose. Also like 1 million, it gets compliments from the ladies but I'm not certain if it gets more compliments.

The reviews on 1 million:
http://www.basenotes.net/ID26129285.html

Some suggestions, just my two cents:
-try the real thing, especially if you're planning on committing to a bottle of something. Someone's approximation of a given fragrance won't be the same as the real thing.

-try the real thing, part 2: whether through a spray on your wrist at the department store or by obtaining samples for yourself. This will also give you a chance to see how the fragrance develops on your skin, how long it lasts etc. None of this is possible by smelling a strip of paper or a bottle cap in the store. Buying a fragrance without knowing how it will behave is called a 'blind buy' and is a gamble. Out of 30 or 40 fragrances I try, I may only like 1 enough to want to buy.

-fragrances are a bit like clothes and perhaps based on the tiny bit I've read, like pheromones. A fragrance which is good in one situation isn't necessarily good in another. Granted, some are versatile but others will smell stuffy and old mannish in a club or too clubby in a boardroom. Knowing where you intend to wear it is important.

-sample, sample, sample. If you want to geek out like me, keep a little scent journal for yourself. It needn't even cost you much. Give yourself a spray at the mall and then jot down what you think initially, after a few hours etc.

I've tried on both 1 million and A*men and liked them both. Not serious enough for my office, but they both have 'play time' written all over them. I preferred A*men a little more, but both have that sweetness that the girls seem to like and both remind me of an old scent called 'Pancaldi'. I almost bought A*men at an airport in Dec, but for me this is a markedly different fragrance than most of what I have for wearing during the work week.

If you have the chance, try out 'Spice Bomb'. It's very different from 1 million, but for a mainstream non-niche fragrance has earned great reviews. FWIW I was surprised with it in a positive way.

If you want to throw down a little more money and get into niche fragrances, try out Creed's 'Green Irish Tweed'. Not for me, but it gets great reviews as a no-brainer, versatile fragrance that females like. I had a sample and can attest that the ladies do like it. A little more serious a scent than 1 million and A*men.

Aventus is catnip, but it's pricey. Musc ravageur is gorgeous, pricey and I really don't think it's office appropriate but I know others disagree.

There's a guy on youtube whose videos are worth watching. He's a little over the top which makes it entertaining. I think he has a 'top 10 panty dropper' review. Young asian guy with a radio voice. You'll know when you've found it.

Some of the guys here may have thoughts on their favourites and what blends well with pheromones. I have no idea on that latter question...

Hope this is helpful.

What would you recommend for a 49 year old wearing Corpo? I only have Acqua di Gio at the moment.

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - Steel - 01-03-2013 8:25 AM

Acqua di Gio is a modern aquatic which the ladies seem to like. I'm not fond of it, but luckily you don't have to date me.

Just based on your age and that you choose Corporativo, maybe look into some of the more mature/serious smelling fragrances. In this vein, and with a British background maybe take a peek at a company like Penhaligon's: Opus 1870 for work and Endymion for night. These aren't aquatics so you might not like them. Creed's Millesime Imperial is also very classy. In a hot environment like Texas a Vetiver would potentially be nice or maybe another one with a British feel, Royall Lyme. No idea how some of these would pair with Pheromones or if there's even any possibility of interference between something like a citrus oil in Royall Lyme and the Pheromones.

I took a stab with Justin because I had tried a few of the fragrances. Beyond the above, best I could say would be to start trying out samples/free sprays and see what works for you. Sometimes what we want to work for us, just doesn't. I really wanted Floris 89 (another great British house) to work for me. It didn't. I smelled like 'grandma's sweater drawer' in my mind.

Having read over some of the other posts in this section there are some fragrance hounds who know more than I. They could probably also offer some even more informed suggestions.

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - Buzzy78 - 01-03-2013 10:09 AM

Hey steel,

Im also somewhat of a cologne addict :-) If you like spice bomb, try the new Dior sport 2012. Also a somewhat spicy cent, but still very fresh.. i use it as my office winter cologne and people comment me about how nice it smells all the time :-)

Another one i picked up recently is Calvin klein encounter.. also nice for office wear, but i would'nt buy it again tbh. But then colognes are very personal.

My favourite to date is Fierce by Abercrombie & fitch.. and since its not at all mainstream here and more difficult to get a hold of in europe, there aint many people wearing it Big Grin

For thelimeusa, for winter wear, a very popular one is fahrenheit by dior.. it's not recent (and because of that not too many people still use it), but has passed the test of time and i believe they brought out new versions of it. Another winner that girls tend to love is Jean Paul Gaultier "le male". Somewhat of a sweet smell, but girls will keep comming to you to smell it Big Grin

If you like something somewhat more fresh, try out Kenzo's "eau indigo" for men. Its fresh, but a very special scent like only Kenzo can make them ;-)

Hope it helps Big Grin

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - thelimeusa - 01-03-2013 4:43 PM

Thanks for the great responses Steel and Buzzy78. I was reading about Dior Homme Intense. Do you think that would be a good cover for the Corpo?

That question is out of my league:
-not familiar with that particular fragrance,
-almost no experience in using frags as covers for Pheromones.

It's a non-answer but wanted to let you know why I couldn't answer.

My frag tastes tend to be a little old school, and I'm also still exploring.

Perhaps your best bet would be to hit a mall/drugstore etc and try it out as a cover. You'll know how it works with your skin with certainty that way.

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - thelimeusa - 01-03-2013 6:33 PM

There are some YouTube recommendations for it.

Wow, another vote for Fierce as their #1 pick. I'll have to try to track some down and give it a spin. I'm definitely curious now. Thanks for the tip on that one.

There is something to be said for not smelling exactly like everyone else. I have Tabac and 4711 on my shelf which are cheap and common in Europe but not typically available in most stores here. You've found Fierce which sounds a good deal more pricey, but I imagine is in stores here. So it goes...

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - el-hombre-del-fuego - 01-03-2013 8:27 PM

Have any of you guys tried Aramis by Aramis, it smells amazing and huge range. It can be worn by older or younger men. Aramis acts like a pheromone on nits own even though its a fragrance. you get a lot of respect from men and women love the smell. First hand experience. Its a very Alpha musky type scent.

Apparently it's tougher to track down here than I thought. Woman at the fragrance counter tonight said someone else had just asked about it as well, but that it's only available at the A&F store's themselves. I checked and there's a lot on eBay, but I like to sample first. It'll be March before I'm near an A&F store.

I think way back in the day I tried this. Kind of a heavy 1980's masculine feel? I'd need to try it again it's been so long.

The ebay ones are probably fakes/knock offs.. Its possible that there are some originals there, but its quite a risk. And ive heard reports of fake ones not smelling nearly as nice.. If you really want it, you should buy a "sure original" at an A&F store or order it through their website.

I don't know where you live, but if its really hard for you to get to an A&F store, i could fill a 5ml tester with some fierce and sent it to ya in the post. (Im from Europe) That way you can order it online trough their store if you like it and you will at least know what youre buying before you do so. Smile

Pm me if needed. If your fast i might be able to make it happen before going on holiday (leaving tomorrow for 15 days)

Hey!
Wow, appreciate the offer! If my March trip falls through I may want to see if I can follow up with you on that. In the meantime, I've got enough scents to keep me occupied for another month or two. Been sampling a new one this week and tried another two at the dept store tonight where I was looking for Fierce (re-tried A*men once more and Issey Miyake's L'eau d'Issey on the other wrist). I must look a little odd walking through the mall, periodically sniffing my own wrists...

Yeah, eBay is risky for scents. Fragrances are one of the products that people love to counterfeit. I saw that I can order in Canada direct from A&F, so that's a plus.

Enjoy your holidays and be nice to the Euro-babes!Good

Hugo by Hugo Boss. Try a sample at Sephora. Nobody seems to wear it, and it is a 10/10 on my scale, and I would say 1 million is a 7-8 for me. It also doesn't hit the wallet as hard. Ladies always ask me what I am wearing, and it also seems to help get my mones out there too. And 1-2 sprays last about 7-9 hrs, so it's great as a cover scent.

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - thisguy - 06-26-2013 8:55 PM

I'd recommend A&F Fierce, lots of people may wear it... but they wear it for a reason.

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - Albion9 - 06-27-2013 6:43 AM

Aramis is a classic and very good. Cool Water is similar to GIT...they were both created by the same person. Chanel Platinum Egoiste is great...as well as regular Egoiste. Antaeus by Chanel is manly!...go easy. Drakkar Noir is also very popular with the ladies. So is Obsession. Azzaro and Chrome by Azzaro are both good. Issey Miyake is popular with younger ladies...as is Hanae Mori, which is similar but more sweetish/gourmand. I'm 50 yrs old so some of these might not be to your liking, but they are all classics that have stood the test of time. Around here, Fierce is considered a high school/frat boy scent. The original Curve is similar and well liked by the younger crowd. Now Kouros is like a pheromone in a way...but go easy! It will cover mones good and lasts all d.ay. It can be polarizing...you either love it or you hate it, but with the right application its magic! You would probably like the Platinum Egoiste, Issy Miyake, Chrome and Cool Water and all 4 are good for summer....but work just as well year round. More than one lady has expressed they like Cool Water on a man with a bit of clean/fresh sweat. Your results may vary so try as many as you can. Sephora is good about samples so try them on your skin and not just a test strip.

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - Albion9 - 06-27-2013 7:00 AM

Oh, I have tried oils from other places and its my experience that they are nowhere near as complex as the scent they try to copy. Now Kiehls original musk oil is very good for the price and great for layering with some scents to give them some added body and longevity. Just remember, wear what YOU like and what makes YOU feel good while wearing it. Also, take what the sales associates at the counter tell you with a grain of salt. Sometimes, not always, they will be pushing certain frags for monetary purposes. I myself do not like to smell like every other guy out there. Good luck!

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - Albion9 - 06-28-2013 6:37 AM

Fierce has a healthy dose of Iso E Super...48%. Here is a link to another article from Perfume Shrine about this ingredient and it lists others that contain it. Maybe this can help a bit.

So many recommend aqua di gio and I honestly dislike the smell. L homme (sp?) is going to become a favorite trust me. 1 million is awesome as well.

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - SS108 - 07-17-2013 2:53 PM

I wouldn't wear Fierce anywhere you can expect a crowd that has the least bit of sophistication. (eg everywhere except high school)

1 million makes me sick. Might as well wear Yatagon (Dont do that).

Curious as to which batch of Aventus you smelled. I find it superb. Whereas I really dont care for GIT.

La Nuit De L'Homme by YSL is very nice, as another member suggested.

Too many generic, boring designer scents being recommended in this thread. For a much more distinct scent that gets TONS of compliments, look no further than Montale's Black Aoud. 1 spray and you'll be getting 30ft projection no problem. Use with caution, my friend.

I personally am fine using it during the day, but as far as the office, it's complete overkill. I've even heard of people using it outside during the summer with excellent results, but I'm a bit hesitant to try it, to be honest. I'm all for being "cologne guy," but even I have limits as to what I'm willing to wear in public. BA is some strong stuff, that's for sure. P

Have you tried get it in essential oil form. Using a drop or two should allow you to wear at the office without problems

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - Pheroman - 09-05-2013 7:28 AM

I never liked any of those strong alcoholic brash commercial scents.
I only used antiperspirant for most of my younger years, Sweat De Man got me many DITHLs over the years.
Creeds are manly and classy. Millesime Imperial is the CEO.
Original Vetiver or Grey Veitver (Tom Ford) is also perfect for the office executive or the down to earth CEO.
And they cover even the strongest mones well.
Very few others do anything for me, and i have tried all the way up to Clive Christian #1.

As3, are you referring to Surrati's Black Aoud? To my knowledge, Montale doesn't sell any oils of their own. Surrati's version isn't bad by any means, but I'd love for Montale to start selling oil versions of their EdPs. The projection and longevity are significantly toned down in this version, but of course, that's a good thing in an office environment.

Original Vetiver or Grey Veitver (Tom Ford) is also perfect for the office executive or the down to earth CEO.
And they cover even the strongest mones well.
Very few others do anything for me, and i have tried all the way up to Clive Christian #1.

OV is an excellent scent. There isn't much vetiver in there, but there's just something about that soapy, borderline-barbershop scent that I really enjoy. I definitely need to get a full bottle of this at some point, from my impressions of the sample I just recently used up. Surprisingly, even the young crowd loves this one. I see this as a very safe, inoffensive, yet distinct scent. Really like this one.

As for MI, I also enjoy the scent quite a bit. However, it's such a skin scent on me that even I hardly notice it. I almost regret purchasing a bottle of this juice, but I do enjoy it for myself.

I need to try Grey Vetiver at some point. Sounds like something I'd wear. Haven't tried much from Tom Ford, but I'm very interested in this and Noir de Noir. So many fragrances, so little time...Wacko2

The projection and longevity are significantly toned down in this version, but of course, that's a good thing in an office environment.

Yes Ekscentra, I am referring to Surrati's Black Aoud. I get many compliments from it and it's even roadtrip friendly. It didn't overwhelm the car at all.

1 Million smells good and sweet but I got a headache after 2 hrs of self exposure lol, the sweetness is a bit overstimulating.
Aventus is just right. Gotta try Ravageur.

1 million makes me sick. Might as well wear Yatagon (Dont do that).

Curious as to which batch of Aventus you smelled. I find it superb. Whereas I really dont care for GIT.

La Nuit De L'Homme by YSL is very nice, as another member suggested.

Superb advice. Right on the money.

Shhhhhhh! Dont tell anyone about Musc Ravageur! whistle

I'm going to second that. I've been wearing this for a while (when not wearing Love Potion scents) and women consistently complement me on my scent. It does tend to be more of an autumn/winter scent but you can pull it off in the summer as well.

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - Deshet - 09-08-2014 10:07 AM

It was actually my search for a new cologne that brought me into the Pheromones world, serendipitously! In any case, I'm still on the hunt for a new signature cologne, being that I've being using L'eau D'Issey for the past 15 years. L'Eau D'Issey is a great scent in its own right, but I just wanted to try something different.

I wanted to get away from the citrus-y scents, and found that I really enjoy dominant Vetiver scents (even though vetiver is used as a complimentary note in many other colognes and perfumes). I've tried Guerlain Vetiver, Tom Ford Grey Vetiver, Zegna Haiti Vetiver, Chopard Noble Vetiver and L'Occitane's Vetyver. I have to say that I love L'Occitane Vetyver's scent the best, but unfortunately, it only last 3-4 hours at most and I can hardly smell the scent after. For strength and longevity, I think it's a toss up between TF Grey Vetiver and Zegna. Zegna smells more like a classical scent, whereas TF is more modern. Also, it doesn't help that they both cost an arm and a leg, with TF being slightly cheaper. But I think I'm leaning towards TF at this point.

For anyone who likes the scent of Oud, definitely check out Zegna's Indonesian Oud. It is absolutely gorgeous, projects incredibly and lasts forever. Not something you can wear to the office or during the day, but for a night out, I can't think of anything better! I literally caught a girl leaning in to sniff me while on the subway. Eek

Hope that helps!

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - Deshet - 09-08-2014 10:11 AM

I forgot to mention, Vetiver, I would consider a more mature scent (I'm 39), so it might be difficult for someone younger to pull off, or if you were trying to attract younger girls. But it is an intensely masculine scent, and I find that it improves my mood when I smell it.

Hermes - Terre d'Hermes ---Iso E Super 55% ( http://perfumeshrine.blogspot.com/2009/03/iso-e-super-its-merits-its-faults-geza.html )
T. Ford - Grey Vetiver

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - ThatGuy - 12-02-2014 10:41 PM

Being that you enjoy Fierce, I would highly recommend Mont Blanc Legend. It is VERY much like Fierce, but definitely has more sophistication and comes off a little more mature.

Besides that, some of my favorites that are generally accepted and appreciated by most people include : YSL L'Homme/La Nuit de L'Homme, Burberry London, Davidoff Cool Water/Green Irish Tweed

Sorry to be boring, but my all time fav is Eternity by CK. But it has to play well with your natural scent and whatever aftershave you use. I've had times where a guy passed me by and I legit stopped and was intoxicated and allured by this. Then another time an ex wore it but it must have been his chemistry or his aftershave but it smelled awful on him. My two cents Smile

Not sure if anyone reads this thread anymore?

Tried Aventus the other day and that is very good, very expensive.

I Recommend l'Occitane Bavx, it smells good on me and I get (with the A314 under) much ioi from -25 yo's. Its very good seemed to create a competitive vibe, 3 times today at mall 2 friends start vying for attention doesn't happen much with just the A314. Did not make anything of it due to my life situation. It is cheap and clean, low allergy, seems more natural to me, experience not marketing heh.

Everyone is different, and it also depends if you have dry skin or not as the heavier winter scents are best suited for dry skin because it will last longer I'd say go to a sephora if you have one near you or nordstroms and check a few out. And this question is best suited for a website like bassnotes where it's strictly cologne related and has reviews... And lastly stay away from 1 million lol everyone uses it. That being all said check out tom fords colognes they have a great silage and not many people wear him or hermes colognes they also have unique scents

There is a difference between Insurrection Pure and Insurrection II Pure.

I think the first is 100 ml and not what you want.
The second is 90 ml and is considered to be the clone.

RE: Recommend me a cologne please - Cornfed - 06-01-2015 12:04 AM

I've been wearing Acqua Di Gio for years, but sometimes the same old thing gets old, and the price is high. I bought a sampler pack from Love Potion and will probably stick with them for a long time now. Prices are good, so I can keep different scents around to fit my mood, and with those oils a little goes a long way and the fragrance literally lasts forever. I've never been able to still smell my Armani 10 hours later the way I can with some of these oils. Plus if you're around specific people, it's nice to be able to find what they like and wear it around them. I really enjoyed Love Potion #9 but it didn't seem to go over as well with the women in my life. I was recommended on here to try Homme, which I wasn't as fond of, but it's gotten me some great compliments on how nice I smell. And hell, it's nice to be able to wear something a bit more unique, not one of the big mainstream fragrances. You don't really stand out with a scent that a hundred other guys in your area are wearing.

I used to work as a paramedic and we were discouraged from wearing cologne entirely, since you never know who is allergic or sensitive to what. I just never got in the habit of doing it at all. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a few samples I could order to try? (either off common scents or one of those cologne sample websites). Maybe a few different types so I can even figure out what type of colognes I want to look into. Also, I do have Wolf from LAL and I love that smell, so something like that would be great.

I actually did go to a store to check out Hanaei Mori, and I really liked the scent. Bought a bottle. I ordered that sample pack recommended above too so now I'll have a bunch of different stuff to try out, but now I have at least one solid bottle of good cologne that I really like. Also helpful that it's one that, if someone asks what I'm wearing, I can say a brand they can actually buy in a store. I've bought a bunch of her stuff, some of it is very good (bulgari extreme) and others very soso (green irish tweed). Overall a good value for the $$$. However, I'd get some creed samples from fragrencenet.com. Basically $4 per "14 day" sample (average price). so for $30 you get a few months worth of real good cologne to try.

Mugler's A*Men or A*Men Pure Malt?

You can get Pure Malt at Macy's online. The new reformulation is just as good at 2009s version. If you like the flankers from the Mugler house, try Pure Tonka. In my experience forcing my girlfriends (friends that are female), "sniff my wrist". They all don't like Pure Malt or Havane even on a piece of paper. They do like Pure Tonka. I should have sprayed my groin area and said "Try deez Pure Malt nuts!".

If you like these masculine scents that I found women like, try: Boss Bottled No. 6, CK One shock, Rochas Man, Mahogany Woods, CH MEN, Michael Jordan Legend, Perry Ellis "M" - smells like Valentines Day sex with expensive chocolate. They all have similar base notes and dry downs. They go great with heavy alpha blends. Warning: these are powerful smells not as King kong as Paco's 1 Million, but I dare say..woah.
