Differing Responses to Same Pheromone
07-11-2014 12:30 PM

As I study the 'mones, and how they interact with people, and their brains, I come across gems once in a while.

The picture below shows results from EEG (Electro Encephalo-Graph) of 2 different personality types (MBTI).
Different personality types favor different thought processes that use different regions of the brain.
There are stimulus thresholds that must be reached in order to activate regions of the brain to take over as the dominant thought process. This is the part that is different between people. Thru experiences people learn to use the different regions of the brain, some favoring some regions/types of thought processes, others favor others.

I think the picture below shows how 2 different personality types ENFJ (top) INTP(bottom) have different abilities as to how they use the T5 portion of their brain, which plays a role in Embarrassment and Responding to Social Feedback.

It seems that in comparison, the INTP type does not favor using the T5 region as much as the ENFJ, and cannot sense the subtle changes in situations as well as the ENFJ does. The INTP response would be not understanding that He/She should be embarrassed until it is overtly obvious, and possibly having a "Freak Out" moment of panic, when the embarrassment finally becomes obvious it is an overwhelming response. The ENFJ can sense subtle changes in conversation and situation because they use the T5 region naturally and continually.

Because 'mones have a physiological response with people, and how they react and think, 'mones also affect this type of response. A 'mone molecule that activates or increases activity in T5 region will make a person more socially aware and responsive. A 'mone molecule that inhibits or deactivates T5 region will make a person less socially responsive until they receive enough stimulus from other sources (environment, conversation, situation) to activate T5 and then all the ignored thoughts come crashing in, making a very different reaction, a somewhat Bi-Polar / Flip-Flop reaction.

I would think of a person who becomes disinhibited by 'mones, but then later gets all the inhibitions back because either the 'mones wore off, or the stimulus was able to overcome the threshold and reactivate the region of the brain that the 'mones had deactivated.

great stuff...

what is the different between the Myer Briggs personality test and the 8 Jungian archetypes, how do they correlate? I'm a bit confused

The 8 Jungian Processes are the basis of the MBTI. The 16 MBTI types are combinations/permutations of a persons strongest 2 Jungian functions.

The Jungian Archetypes are not really related to the MBTI in a 1 to 1 way. There are way more than 8 of them and they seem to play on how a person is influenced by events in their life. I don't have any experience with Archetypes, they seem a little mystical to me, something that is not as defined as the MBTI/8 Jungian Cognitive Processes.

Archetypes seem kinda like palm reading or fortune telling to me, where the other (MBTI & JCP's) seem more structured and defined.

Maybe there is a correlation, but I don't know archetypes and they seem very different from what I know after browsing some web pages.

Never really thought of this, but I do know as my confidence or energy dwindles, and an uncomfortable moment comes my brain and body (temp/red face) freak out. In confident situations, I may not even notice. My wide shares that one with me quite a bit when in public. I am an INTP and below does hit it pretty close, but not all aspects were right on.

"Tend to enter a dissociated state when arguing or meeting someone new. In this state, their neocortex shuts out raw emotions in order to enjoy objectivity.
Least interested in listening.
Engage the above regions + Fp1 and Fp2 when examining a topic from multiple angles and integrating the angles into a coherent way.

INTPs are likely to quickly stop listening as they assess the relevance of what others are saying."

On a funnier/sad note, this lack of a study almost gets it exactly: http://atchuup.com/how-to-understand-int...ed-people/

Even thought I read the myer briggs personality typing, and studied abit of neuroscience, I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around this and figuring out how this information can be applied in practice.

Exactly how many hours of studying needed in order to learn how to instantly decode & maneuver people based on the combination of the neuro-nod points and MBTI, seems rather long.
And what about other personality typing systems out there?

So are you suggesting that each of the 8 types react differently to different pheromones? If so then in what way..

And are certain types more susceptible to pheromones then others?

Just out of the bat here one would assume that Extravers, Feelers, Intuitives, Percievers have a stronger reaction to pheromones then their opposites.

Introverts, thinkers, sensers, judgers, tend to be more analytical and harder to seduce for many obvious reason... however the question is "are there pheromones to reverse their natural predispositions and flip em upside down, before delivering the magic scent #2
If that is so, then the theory still confirms that certain types need a different mix or a combination of mixes in order to illicit the same response.

It was a neat link, but there is a very different understanding or usage of the word intorvert in MBTI. There are 4 Different Introverted Thought Processes, and although have the word INTROVERTED in them, they don't mean the same as saying a person is socially an introvert, or hermit, or shy.

People can use all 8 of the Jungian processes, but the fact that most people only use 2 or 3 most of the time is what makes up the MBTI. And it makes everyone different. If you have 8 different scales from 1-10 (each scale is one of the 8 Jungian cognitive processes), then there are over 40,320 types of people. The MBTI groups these 40,320 types into 16 groups of 2,520 types. And for the most part, it is a very good model. The 2 strongest thought processes really do tend to stand out alot compared to the rest, and form a lot of the personality.

When you see the reasons behind why people do things, it starts to make sense. And dumb people don't seem so dumb when you understand how they look at the world in a way that is so different from the way you do.

It also helps with patterns in behavior, and understanding them. It helps me to understand myself and others so much better.

I act like an INTP sometimes. I spread over like 4 types depending how i'm feeling.

Similar to myself, I can alter due to mood, of course due to mood + alcohol or drug and then work. For some reason if I am being paid, I am able to be more outgoing. I used to dread public speaking and was no able to really do so. If it is for work i am engaging and able to take many questions and compensate for those which are aggressive or direct in nature.
Interested in those or which grouping you linked to "dumb"? I am betting the introspective thinker. I had a guy in my group who was extremely intelligent, yet needed like an hour to respond to a question. I would blurt out something that seemed right at the moment and he would come back and give the absolute best response an hour later. In a fast moving corporate meeting environment, he initially seems like he is not engaged or does not understand, but in a governance type role where he can digest then respond he is the genius.
Now with myself even at work I am in a larger group setting intimidating or stand offish (people tell me), but one on one very much appreciated where I can delve into deeper conversations. Yet yesterday for example with Wolf in a large environment with numerous people my old peer/boos who I've known for 10 years says he and others found me different. He attributed it to me smiling more. I did not notice this. May of been placebo of me trying to be congruent, but could of also been engagement in a social exercise (people scavenger hunt) but I think it was probably the scent helping to move me slightly away from the "I" to an "E" type perspective.

Meltingash,
I agree on the [I can alter due to mood, of course due to mood + alcohol or drug and then work. ] stuff. This is how I see Pheromones playing a role. they can act to stimulate or suppress brain function, sometimes directly, sometimes indirectly. Understanding what they stimulate or suppress becomes easier when you look at it thru the lens of MBTI.

Have you seen the book "Functions of Type" by Hartzler? It really was eye opening for me to see the different JCP's as isolated groups.
