"Dating" is part of the courtship process, so the 3-date rule is generally in play. High-level game can bypass it, but you have to lead the entire time.

If you just want to hookup, then position yourself in the appropriate context with that goal in mind. So if you go out to the bar @ 8:00pm, don't expect to leave with a girl until 10-12............that's a lot of time wasted talking to girls. Why not just arrive @ 11:00pm, and let other guys do the heavy-lifting talking to girls for hours.
