RE: Do Pheromones Spoil?
09-16-2012 10:11 AM
There were a number of threads a while back on the rubber-dropper top ones evaporating over the course of a year - recommended to put them in an airtight container for long-term storage. The sprayers should be fairly well sealed as they are, since they have a tiny piston pump inside them. The shelf life for unscented as far as I know should be fairly long, since chemical reactions between the pheromones, carrier, dliuent, and fixatives should be relatively slow at room temperature. Scented is another matter, since colognes and perfumes themselves have a shelf life that can be amazingly short for some commercial ones, and the shelf life due to chemical reactions in the bottle with pheromone blends doesn't really have any research or opinion outside of forums such as this!
The oil stuff should react in the bottle much more slowly than alcohol solutions, not sure about how reactive DPG and silicones may be.

Stone Labs did us all a service by having their unscented pheromones tested at the 3 year mark, with a result of 0% degradation. So as long as you store them away from heat and light, which are the enemies of Pheromones and fragrances, you should be able to store and use them for many years.
We say our perfumes have a shelf life of around 6 years, but it varies a bit to each side of that depending upon the ingredients. Heavy resins last forever..seriously, thousands of years...while herbal and citrus EOs are more fragile and last only a few years.
Anything with a base of organic oil such as jojoba or apricot, etc., is only going to last around 2.5 years before it starts to smell rancid. And yes, sprays will evaporate a little bit, but take care they are double capped, (or even bagged if you do not have an over-cap) and evaporation will be very very slow.
And yes, those rubber dropper tops will melt..they do not last very long before decomposing. Silicone lined hard plastic caps will not be affected by acidic compounds (such as Essence of Woman ) as badly.

Thank you so much. Great answer! I think may have a few years then for some products.
