yes some guys r over the top with how they look...... and spend alot of time on there appearance...... as a result they r self-conscious and can get an overinflated ego. yes, i have alittle bit of that bond-ness(?) high ego/high confidence (dont take no for an answer without a discussionWink) but i do know what is too far and i keep it in check when necessary. I wouldnt say im rude, but yes i can tell my self my ego is slightly altered..... but rarely do women (some times guys) have a problem with that....... its mostly just alpha females that are referred to as 'uber bitches' that dont like me and my act..........

im willing to accept that though and i do my best to not push in those situations........u girls are tricky though....... just have to find out how much pushing is necessary Wink Angel lol

sory to rant Rolleyes

P.S...... IMO the guy in the pick could be gay lol...... i dont go that far P

bond

Well I guess it too depends on the guy...each is an individual...cuz Bond...mmmm... I mean Blush hehehe P

I don't think dressing "preppy" appears gay in and of itself. Sexual identity is more evident in facial expressions and how you carry yourself and speak. However, with that said, you can't always know for sure. Many gay guys are really macho, cut, tastefully dressed and wouldn't be caught dead in preppy threads.

When I see someone dressed overly preppy it strikes me as plastic and conformist, almost as if they're wearing a work uniform. I think, damn, that person hasn't a creative bone in their body and are trying way too hard. What the hell are they trying to say? I shop Ralph Lauren and have the maid put hot stones in my bed so there!?

Ah don't wanna pickle...just wanna ride mah motosickle! Twisted

lol, the guy in the pick is cute...but he's overly-dressed (if he's going for lunch with his friends per say) lol, for office wear - he could get a way with that look. But I mostly prefer jeans and a nice clean top lol if that made any sense Smile

I'm with you. And It would be a lot less overdone if he'd skip the sweater around his shoulders Smile

I'm pretty much an alpha girl and I find it attractive if a guy has a bit of an ego. I've noticed lots of guys are intimidated by an alpha and are shy to make a move. It's nice to find a guy that has the guts to chat you up every once in a while Smile
Sorry kind of off topic, but I'm curious, Bond, is that you in the avatar?

someone said earlier bout it being a metro-european look..... and yes i have gotten that comment before. this summer i worked for abercrombie in NYC, and just by experience..... that metro look is only different by physical looks........ the europeans that bought clothes (most of the customers) are generally slimmer, more narrowed shouldered....... different body type than most americans who buy clothes here. I have broad shoulders so the tight tees compliment my upper body and show off muscle........ IM NOT TRYING TO STEREO TYPE HERE....... its just from experience, Europeans have a different body type and clothes fit them differently than most americans (not saying all americans have broad shoulders)

this probably sounds really derogatory..... sory i dont mean it in that way

As for myself, I really dont judge people on what they wear. I wait till I get to know them to make that judgement, I think that is why so many relationships dont work out now a days. People forgot that the clothes dont make the man the man makes the clothes. But............. on first glance I tend to attract to the the bad boy look. I dont know what else to call it or if there is a specific name in fashion for it. Jeans tshirts leather ect ect ...

Now dont get me wrong, my hubby looks good in a suit and tie but it doesn't get my blood flowing. He would never wear preppy clothes not that he is against anyone else that does. If he walks into the house wearing his mechanics jumpsuit peeled off to his waist (which is what he does when its hot) and his tank top, I still get flustered to this day. Same thing when he wears leather.

Funny thing is he has no ideal. He will come into the house that way and I will say "oh sweet goddess" and he will assume I am worried he is going to sit on the furniture LOL

anywhooooo enough about the hubby. Big Grin Alpha is a state of mind not a state of dress. I think ultimately I find men who are comfortable with who they are and show that comfort in their dress are attractive, whatever that style may be. Same thing for women.

I think it depends on where you live and who you ask. For me personally, I wear things that I feel comfortable in, both physically and mentally. Downside is, this happens to be shorts/jeans and a t-shirt. Really dislike wearing suits or nice clothing as I just don't feel like myself in them, but it doesn't mean I won't wear them on special occasions.
The preppy looks doesn't appeal to me very much. I've always felt it was more of the rich ivy league stereotype than preppy. Or thats the stereotype that seems to be portrayed in the media.

When it comes to a a bf or dating. I dont get to caught up on the clothes. I just find I wont necessarily approach or be super warm if I am uncomfortable with the aura a person is putting out with their style.
But if you are dressed like a snob but are warm and inviting and dont care too much about others threads and general material goods, we will get along just fine.

Oh and Bond...this is an Unfortunate situation I have gotten myself in Big Grin

Here I am, 007, sorry I'm late to the party. Here's my nickle.

It's true that gay men have always been well know for exceptional grooming, at least the gay men I know, but they didn't write the book on it. With the advent of the Metrosexual it's hard to tell by someones attire what their sexual preference is. These days simply being pressed/well dressed seems to invite speculation. As others have said, mannerisms are not always good indicators that someone is gay. It's easy to make assumptions about people based on body language, without having verbally communicated with them. Once you've actually spoken with someone, opinions often can/do change. You begin to see the person as a whole and what's really beneath the exterior. Though if you don't like what you see, at the outset, it could put you off wanting to engage with that person.

I know you're just using the above pic for illustration of preppy style and that you don't wear the blue/pink combo. Preppy style?...yes...but the color combo is questionable...lol. Couple that combo with even slightly effeminate gestures and I might mistakenly draw that conclusion. Pretty Boy? Um...there's a line between pretty and too pretty. Personally, I just can't see why a man gay or straight would throw on/plan to wear blue/pink...other than it may be trendy or he actually likes it. Not that men can't wear pink, salmon, etc., but let's face it PINK screams feminine. I don't mind pastels on men particularly in summer but they don't exactly project a masculine image. Sometimes in the interest of image *cough * it's necessary to set color trends aside. Loose the pink sweater and this guy is good to go. The belt is tres preppy, without being labeled as gay, and the bracelet is garnered from hippie/surfer days, presently worn with any number of looks...from preppy to goth.

Where I live khaki pants/shorts, polos rule...even for women. No offense to the preppy look, I like it, it's just that I see way too much of it on a regular basis. I long for visits to the city where there's diversity in dress/culture, I crave it and seek it out. I 'd love to be able to see that everyday but unfortunately where I live preppy is more a uniform than a style.

I learned long ago not to judge a book by its cover. Clothing is often used as a tool to project a certain image. Halter tops and shorts wouldn't quite make it on the job unless you're working at Hooter's. By exerting a little effort with the proper attitude/congruence you can pull off just about any look. The preppy look has come into the mainstream. So it stands to reason, even though you've always dressed preppy now that you've matured, gained confidence and buffed up you're finding you're getting more attention. I must say I do prefer jeans/polo to khakis/polo, Mr. Bond. Wink The truth, fashion aside, is that you'd attract attention no matter what you wore.

Sure a nice set of threads is nice and can make you feel great. But as Tisha said, I don't believe clothes make the man. I believe the man makes the clothes otherwise it's just material on a hanger.

I find taking away the outer covering (clothing) can be a great equalizer among people. There's nothing but your mannerisms, personality and speech, to project who you are. I love meeting people while naked. Big Grin Eek Big Grin
