HUMAN SEXUALITY COURSE SYLLABUS
08-16-2009 4:01 PM

I was very pleased to see the first edition of my book listed in THE ASSEMBLIES OF GOD THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY PCP 624 FAMILY STUDIES: HUMAN SEXUALITY COURSE SYLLABUS

http://www.agts.edu/syllabi/resident_su2...ii2002.pdf

Course description
This course is an overview, assessment and treatment course for helping professionals. This course also contains a Christian investigation of sexuality within the larger context of human experience and individual development. Emphasis is placed on physical and psychosexual development; health related issues; and the application of scientific information to sexual issues and problems. Issues to be addressed are deviation, inadequacy and treatment of sexual problems.

Kohl, J. V., & Francoeur, R. T. (1995). The scent of eros: Mysteries of odor in human sexuality. New York: Continuum.

The treatment of sexual problems was another reason I first began presenting a biologically based model that helps to explain the development of sexual preferences. Before people can do much about physical attraction, or the lack of it--it helps to understand the basics of why we are attracted to others.

Yes it is! Thanks. I didn't write it with any expectation of product development, or anything further. Instead, I've had many more years of presentations, publications, and citations that have made my research a pleasurable, albeit sometimes frustrating, avocation. The frustration is largely due to the unsubstantiated marketing claims made by people who haven't got a clue about human pheromones. The pleasure is due to the recognition I have received from people who are my scientific peers--and the pleasure of having a well-accepted product line.

My 2001 publication Human Pheromones: Integrating Neuroendocrinology and Ethology (with distinguished colleagues from Vienna) detailed the role of human pheromones in heterosexual attraction, and received The Zdenek Klein award for the best paper linking hormones and behavior (e.g., neuroscience).

Five years later I contributed a book chapter on human pheromones to the Handbook of the Evolution of Human Sexuality. “The Mind's Eyes: Human Pheromones, Neuroscience, and Male Sexual Preferences", which was simultaneously published in the Journal of Psychology & Human Sexuality. For the latest publication, I received the 2006 Reiss Theory Award from the Foundation for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (FSSS).

The award is given annually for the best social science article, chapter, or book published in the previous year in which theoretical explanations of human sexual attitudes and behaviors are developed. In conjunction with the award, I was an invited plenary session speaker at the 50th anniversary annual meeting of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS) in November, 2007, which was held in Indianapolis, Indiana. I first presented to SSSS in 1992.

I'm bragging when I say that I don't know anyone else who has won awards for publishing both in neuroscience, and in social science. The disciplines are very different, and difficult to mix--especially in study design.

However, with the help of a promising young med student and her professor, we now have results that will help people to better understand the role of pheromones in the development of human sexual preferences--and in the maintenance of good interpersonal relationships.

I'm not sure how much to say about the results before they are published, and not sure how much more effort I want to make towards publication of a small study that needs to be replicated by another group. The biggest problem is knowing that whatever I say or do in this regard, others will use to make ridiculous claims in attempts to profit from the science without incorporating it.

Somehow, this will all balance out I guess. I also got a nice book review from a forensics perspective, which helps me justify the amount of time spent on the science.

Hmmm an expert in need of pheromone research guinea pigs... Just call me G.P. for short LOL.. anyone else here think this would be an awesome place to recruit researchers?Mrgreen

I have decided to change my lifestyle. I will now live my life in such a way that when I roll out of bed every morning, the second my feet hit the ground, God and Satan will both say "Oh shit, he's awake!!!"

I'd be interested. Mrgreen

Do our experiences determine our beliefs or do our beliefs determine our experiences?

Congratulations on having your book work it's way into syllabi!
And your as-yet-unpublished study sounds interesting. Be sure to let us know when it's published so we can look it up.
