Hormones for your kids?
10-06-2012 4:07 AM

I've noticed a few posts from members mentioning they spray their kids down before school to promote a good attitude/mood for their kid and their classmates-I've never thought of this before. Does anyone who does this know-are their dangers? Age limits? Best ones for the cause? I've noticed my 5 year old son is no longer his happy self and had picked up his fathers pessimistic, negative, and (sorry to say) " life is out to get me" attitude. It's gotten to the point entered I no longer see him smile, try to make friends, or try to enjoy life at all.

Now, i know he's 5, a lot if kids go through this phase at some point, but I can't stand the thought of him turning out depressive like his dad. And yes, I also realize pheromones won't fix the underlying problem, but I've tried so many things, and at this point I just want to give the kid a chance to make his own happiness, even if at first it is artificial.
Does this make me a horrible parent, or a pheromone addict? God I hope not, but I'm throwing this out there anyway.

It's dangerous. Where are you seeing posts about parents spraying their kids. The research on Pheromones is scanty and nonexistent for children. I would say don't do it.

That's what I was feeling from it, seems too untested to risk my kids safety, but this is new to me and I'm relatively uneducated on the subject. Thanks for the advice!

There is not enough research done IMHO to put your child at risk. I've only heard of kids using hormones for medical reasons and to help them grow.

Maybe something happened to him? If the change is drastic and all of a sudden I would take that as a red flag. Does he talk to you after school? For example my little boy is in Kinder, I always ask him how his day was and if he tells me something like "that kid Andrew was a jerk" .. instead of saying don't call him a jerk, I'll say "yes he is my love, he's a jerk, why? what did he do?" ..Then they feel you are on their side and will open up to you, I never punish him or get mad at him for what he tells me about his little life. Also I would explain to him that daddy sometimes thinks negative, but that it's always best to think positive bc he is lucky and blessed and loved and healthy etc. ...kids understand a lot more than we think.

I don't know if he's in sports or Karate or some activity but that will really help him. Maybe enrolling him into something he is interested in and nurture his talents, something he is naturally good at, to build his self esteem.

Praise him every time he does something positive...Then give it a label. "You are mommy's Super Positive Star." Tell him how proud you are of him being so positive and how it is a hard thing to do, but he makes it look easy. Everyday ask him to tell you all of the positive things that happened to him...For the negative ones, ask him to describe how he could turn the negative in to a positive. I've tried this with other habits and it works, but you have to be consistent.

I agree with the sports/karate and will throw my 2 cents in for positive self esteem for boys.

1. Sports - Friends...
2. Physical Self Defense - Brazilian JJ is very good.
3. Verbal self defense - Use scenarios...when they say x, you can say y...make it a game.

Wait till he or she is post pubescent. I don't know the mechanism, but the presence of a non-genetically related male in the household correlates with an earlier onset of puberty. And that correlates with earlier age of sexual relationships.

I've started my 7-year old boy out with scents. We go shopping and browse through the cologne and perfume section smelling things to see what we think about them and comparing notes. We sniff vegetables, fruits, herbs, and spices in the market. I'm working to give both of us a shared vocabulary and repertoire of scents as a buildup to involving him in other aspects of Alpha training and how to be a proper man. I coach him and discipline him with the explanation that he must understand how to act and why so that one day he can teach his children. The connection with your children and their understanding of your role in their lives will do more than anything to help them work through their lives. Nobody "knows" how to be the best parent possible, we all make it up everyday and constantly re-evaluate ourselves, but sharing and learning here about it will more than likely not wind up with anything to do with pheromones, and will probably be some of the best advice anyway!

You may try to introduce to your child's environment certain foods and food odors as opposed to synthetic pheromones, leaning on JV Kohl's research about the relationship of scent and epigenetics with biological effects. Scents like pumpkin, apples, and other have some effects that can be anchoring to seasons and associate pleasant memories with those seasonal foods. Foods can have powerful effect on physiology and psychology, and the likelihood of things going awry with kids and pheromones is far greater than with purposefully created aromas and meals.

Kids thrive on structure and continuity, and an understanding of logical and physical order and rules. Once they can figure a system out then they go to town working within the system and exploring the boundaries and outcomes - they are natural scientists. Randomness, inconsistency, and restrictive situations that don't allow exploration and decision-making make kids very depressed, stressed, and grouchy. I'll work out several options and allow my son to choose when situations allow. If some have catches or impacts I'll let him know so he can "figure it out" and not lead him to conclusions. It works wonders for his self-esteem and overall attitude. It really is a small thing, it just requires forethought to set it up ahead of time. And it didn't come naturally to me, I had to discipline myself to make time and space for his self-determination and reasoning skills to find positive outlets for expression.

Self-expression exercises may help him separate from mirroring his father's attitudes. If you haven't read anything about it, do some reading on Howard Gardiner's theory of Multiple Intelligences http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_m...elligences. A number of books speak to the subject and explain how each person has vary innate capacities in understanding, processing, and expressing. When my son would get really upset and shut down, I would (sometimes) try to get him to show my how he felt my talking (usually a lost cause), singing, drawing, or dancing. He would often come out of his sulk and do some wild angry jig and wind up laughing at himself, or draw a violently explosive picture. But it broke the spell and gave him an outlet for expression. Little things, working miracles for sure.

Hope some of this helps, and hope your little guy can regain some happiness!

Pheromones are mostly precursors to other hormones: Androsterone and epiandrosterone -> DHT, DHEA -> ndrostenediol, androstenedione and testosterone.

Though a recreational(for AAS purposes) dose of Andro or epiandro is 600-1200mg, and for the purpose of pheromonal use doses are in the Mcg range, you still have the potential of transdermal absorbtion converting these to their target hormones.

For an adult this means nothing. These doses arn't enough to effect the HPTA or your natural hormone levels. For a child though, they are in a wild hormone rollercoaster and it wouldn't be wise to tamper with it.

DHT is responsible for penis growth in aldolesents, so maybe spray a little androsterone on his pepe, and he will never be upset again. You've all seen the enzyte commercials. Really though; I kid.
