Light and dark and mones

Has anyone noticed that some mones work better when people are less exposed to light, including artificial light? I have some notions about this, but wanted to see what patterns other people have or haven't seen...

The interaction between light and moes provides an interesting basis for things like low "mood" lighting and candlelit dinners. (Lower light means less blue light, presumably.)

The interaction between light and moes provides an interesting basis for things like low "mood" lighting and candlelit dinners. (Lower light means less blue light, presumably.)

There is the hormone Melatonin that is a light sensitive hormone made in the eyes, which are in some respect part of the brain. (The white part of your eyes is actually a continuation of the protective layer around the brain.)

There is the hormone "Vitamin D" that is sunlight related, in it's production in the skin.

Both are putative pheromones.

this link says Melatonin is specifically reactive to "Blue" Light.

Quote: What affects MELATONIN Production?

MELATONIN Production/Secretion

Promoted by:

Darkness
Vitamins B6, B12, folate (synthesis cofactors of SAMe)
Vitamin B3
Acetyl carnitine – acetylated form of L-carnitine;
Hypoglycemia
Tryptophan - MELATONIN's protein amino acid precursor
SSRIs (anti-depressants)
Exercise (except late evening exercise - see below)

Inhibited by:

Light – MELATONIN production lowered by blue light;
Age – MELATONIN production decreases with age
Fluoride - MELATONIN production lowered by fluoride
Alcohol;
Caffeine;
Late evening exercise - during MELATONIN rising phase;
Estrogen - Direct exposure to ESTRADIOL reduced ɑ1 / β-adrenoceptor-induced stimulation of MELATONIN synthesis and release.
NSAIDS (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatoru drugs) – E.g. aspirin, Ibuprofen;
Beta blockers – keep MELATONIN levels from rising naturally at night;
B-blockers – Like leaving the light on all night
Calcium-channel blockers;
Diuretics;
Benzodiazepines – E.g. Anti-anxiety drugs Xanax and Valium.

Yes. DHEA seems to upregulate serotonin via Estrogen receptor beta. Serotonin could be converted to melatonin in darkness.

I'm not entirely sure it has to do with pheromones, but I do know that time of day does have an effect on perceived attractiveness. I stumbled on this on OKCupid. Seems legit.

http://blog.okcupid.com/index.php/dont-b...-accident/

the time of day portion is about half way through the article, but it also covers pictures and statistical data based on other things related to pictures.
I don't know if this related to real life situations, or if it is mostly just picture based data. Either, I thought it was interesting and might offer something you're looking for.

It seems reasonable that the lighting is best at certain times of day (sunrise and sunset, as the article mentions)

OKTrends is a cool blog, though. It looks like they finally have some new stuff up, also.

Never heard of light and dark mones.. But I do notice my mood change on light therapy.. If I am in a dark room I tend to be more gloomy, and if i'm feeling emphatetic that day depressed a little.. On the other hand all I have to do is WALK into a brightly lit area and I can feel my mood lift. I think is tied to bouts of depression I've faced over the years.

Light therapy is a wonder.

I don't see how it effects mones.. Maybe I could be enLIGHTend?
