Oil vs. Spray
02-01-2013 11:04 AM

I know there are a couple of discussions on this, but I wanted to make a thread regarding clarity regarding this. I did a search and read around but I didn't get any clear, direct responses.

I apologize if I haven't checked well enough, please feel free to let me know that I'm being dumb.

I wanted to kind of gather the difference between an oil version of a product and a spray version.

Oil: Slower diffusion, longer lasting application, ideal for colder temperatures?

Spray: Faster diffusion, faster effect, ideal for warmer temperatures?

Could someone shed some light on this, or help me to head myself in the right direction?

Thanks a bunch folks

Personally I think the weather part is reversed. Spray for cold weather, oil for warmer.

So faster burning/alcohol molecules should be used in colder weather.. makes sense, it gives them a little bit of a longevity and they'll hit when theres a little bit of heat..

I can't help but to wonder if they'll evaporate too quickly though without an effect in the colder temperatures

It was a common understanding that Oil versions are slower in diffusion .... etc ..

but we have do differ ..

DPG stuff ..

and real OIL stuff ( Mineral Oil and natural oil )

most products out there that are known to be OIL versions are only DPG versions and there i see not much difference to alc versions ...

this topic has been discussed many many times before on other boards ( love scent or androtics board )

most Oil stuff has been sold via Love Scent ...

it´s just a matter what you like more ...

if a formula works better in cold or hot climate depends on more than on the carrier ...

Pago

just away ... Anyone

I can't help but think that colder temperatures are a waste of wearing pheromones.. unless you can kind of attach it to your body (lotions) and let it diffuse slower..

Thoughts?

Alc sprays diffuse slower in cold temperatures, no need to slow diffusion further.

I agree with Halo. Alc diffuses slower and lasts longer in cool/cold weather.

Most alcohol based sprays use ethanol. The throw of the dissolved mones in this alcohol depends largely on how close you come to its boiling point, which is its evaporation. It is a physical change from liquid to gas. The resulting gas is our "mone cloud." I dont want to get all chemlow here but it is roughly 78 degrees Celsius. There is a curve here that decreases from its boiling point. Colder it is, less evaporation. Im going to skip on the part of air current affecting evaporation rate here.

The closer you get the liquid to its boiling point the faster it will evap whether the heat source be bodyheat or surrounding environment. Absorption aside, applying to your body will heat it faster than applying to your clothes. A warm day will heat it faster than a cold one.

So more heat equals more evap. Hotter it is the quicker it will make the change from liquid to gas. Equals more diffusion. Absorption rates aside, applying sprays to your clothes will evaporate it alot slower than applying it to the skin which is warmer and will cause its state change much faster.

In an oil such as DPG, the boiling point is much higher (230 C) so more heat will be necessary to evaporate it. Slower burn rate. Hotter days will increase this burn rate.

In a nutshell, alcohol sprays are better suited to colder weather as they will last longer. The cold temperature will hinder evaporation rates. Oils will burn super slow and not diffuse very fast which will not deliver the payload as quick.
In warmer climates, the alcohols will burn off super fast. The oil blends will burn faster as well but remain active longer. Think of syrup. Think of the viscosity. Cold syrup will run down the plate slower than warm will. Same premise.

All boils down to boiling points. Pun intended.
