RE: Pheromonal Influences On The Sociosexual Behavior Of Men

Others have debunked Cutler's studies. see for example: Wysocki, C.J., & Preti, G. (1998) Letters to the Editor: Pheromonal influences. Archives of Sexual Behavior, 27, 6, 627 629. Besides, she didn't disclose what she was calling "human male pheromones."
Studies that don't allow anyone to attempt replication are worthless to scientific pursuits. They're great for marketing, nonetheless. Efforts to get at the truth in all this take more than linking to abstracts of studies; someone must read the study report and determine whether it says what people are being led to believe it says.
After Wysocki and Preti debunked this study, Cutler's group responded:
Cutler, W.B., Friedmann, E., & McCoy, N.L. (1998) Letters to the Editor: Response to Wysocki and Preti. Archives of Sexual Behavior, 27, 6, 629 634.
In the past decade, none of the researchers that I know have been convinced of anything Cutler has ever claimed.

Quote:This study tested whether synthesized human male pheromones increase the sociosexual behavior of men. Previous data showed such was the case in women. 38 heterosexual men, aged 26-42, completed a 2-week baseline period and 6-week placebo controlled, double-blind trial testing a pheromone "designed to improve the romance in their lives". Each man kept daily behavioral records for 6 sociosexual behaviors Faxing them weekly:
Sexual intercourse
Sleeping next to a romantic partner
Petting/affection/kissing
Informal dates
Formal dates
Self stimulation to ejaculation (masturbation)
Significantly more pheromone than placebo users increased above baseline in
