Dexter, they say its progesterone but for all we know, they could be using some kind of progestin with similar effects. Too much to assume or speculate but thats just my 2 pennies.

Exactly what I'm saying / thinking.
Progesterone doesn't mean "PROGESTERONE".

Kindof like vitamin & mineral supplements. When it says calcium, it could be lots of different types of calcium.

These links are about PROGESTINS (Progesterone Type)

No use of "PROGESTERONE" though.

I think there is opportunity to look at Progesterone as a Pheromone.

Because:
1) it is a hormone
2) it is excreted from the human body by breath
3) curiosity of it being an ingredient listed by boyth GYNEX/Spellbound and Suregasm (Suregasm doesn't claim and pheromones though)
4) Seems to be gender specific polarized as a female hormone

Progeterone is a pretty good marker of ovulation. Also known as "In Heat" when woman's body temp will rise by 1-2 degrees F, signalling ovulation. HMM. What would a good signal be externally, a pheromone.

My son who is 4 has an uncanny ability to ask women who don't look pregnant, if they are pregnant. So far he is always right. I wonder if he has a good nose for progesterone.

The fact that saliva levels of progesterone are representative of blood serum levels means that women's breath will reveal if they are ovulating/"In Heat" or not.

Levels higher than ovulation would reveal if a woman is more than 8 weeks pregnant, this is the point in time where the placenta kicks out Progesterone is large amounts. Up until full term pregnancy, where the placenta kicks out ~250mg/day.

-------------------------------------------------
Also, the fact that it is related to pregnenolone, allopregnanolone and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) line it up for pheromone activity in my book.

Quote:Progesteron in the Nervous system
Progesterone, like pregnenolone and dehydroepiandrosterone, belongs to the group of neurosteroids. It can be synthesized within the central nervous system and also serves as a precursor to another major neurosteroid, allopregnanolone.

Neurosteroids affect synaptic functioning, are neuroprotective, and affect myelination.[36] They are investigated for their potential to improve memory and cognitive ability. Progesterone affects regulation of apoptotic genes.

Its effect as a neurosteroid works predominantly through the GSK-3 beta pathway, as an inhibitor. (Other GSK-3 beta inhibitors include bipolar mood stabilizers, lithium and valproic acid.)

------------
Progesterone modulates the activity of CatSper (cation channels of sperm) voltage-gated Ca2+ channels. Since eggs release progesterone, sperm may use progesterone as a homing signal to swim toward eggs (chemotaxis).
So it may also be a pheromone of type for egg/sperm comunication (marco polo type).
