DHEA
04-10-2011 1:45 AM
I've just finished dissolving 100mg of DHEA in fractionated coconut oil, and made myself a nice little 12mcg test sprayer. So I'll be reporting my impressions of the molecule in this thread as I test it out.
For now, here's everything this forum has to offer us on DHEA as a pheromone:
James V. Kohl reports that Winnifred Cutler "claimed on the Montel Williams show (I have the transcript) that she was using DHEA or its sulfate" in her super-secret products, to unknown effect.
The molecule was also used in a discontinued mix from Love Potion called Synchronicity, and another one called Drop Your Guard.
Diane reports: "DHEA is physically stimulating for me, but I can't use much of it because it exacerbates an already wonky heart beat for me."
In conversations elsewhere, Tisha said this of DHEA:
Quote:I would have sworn it was TAA without the neroli. I noticed increased ease, positivity and better all round moods with it. I also noticed people hovering around me like bee's. I also noticed this effect when she was wearing it at a few social functions we attended together.
Willow has speculated on the use of DHEA: "2 of my faves contain DHEA, as an active ingredient. Why exactly? I believe it creates a sort of reset button / clean slate...not sure though."
To which Diane explained:
Quote:Generally speaking, the 3-alpha-5alpha isomers of steroids are calming, soothing, anti-anxiety, and sedating (high doses) while the 3-beta-5-beta isomers and the sulfates are not. The beta isomers and sulfates tend to improve cognitive function and enhance memory, and are sometimes implicated in appetite control.
DHEA (3β-hydroxy-5-androsten-17-one) and DHEAS (3β-hydroxy-5-androsten-17-one sulphate) are beta isomers, so they are both expected to act as a memory enhancing-type pheromones, and as long as cortisol levels in the brain are in the normal range it should also decrease the appetite....
DHEA, DHEAS and Androsterone are neurosteroids, (I'm not sure about epiandrosterone), and all four are found in some measure excreted in the urine, and so these are prime candidates for putative pheromones.

While writing this post, I was enjoying the self-effects of a single 12mcg spray of DHEA, fixed with FCO, monolaurin, and a light musk scent, split between my wrists.
It's getting late, so I can't say 100% that the effects have not been caused by a normal ultradian shift in physiological and mental functioning. However, I can say I've had a very pleasant 45 minutes researching and writing. I have a pleasant feeling of heaviness throughout my body, and an enhanced sense of focus. Mood is very good, and I'm feeling relaxed.
It feels a little like Instant Shine, but somewhat smoother and better in my opinion.
So many great chemicals to play with. Good times.

This morning I've replicated the self-effects from DHEA as described above.
It's a really interesting and pleasant sensation that comes over me with this one. A feeling of being solid and centered. The effects are definitely very kinesthetically focused. My body feels good, and I am drawn to focus my attention on it. The self-effects of DHEA could be very useful to me in keeping focused.
It's tough for me to believe that I'm sniffing millionths of a gram of something I just bought as a supplement dosed at 100mg, and experiencing this pronounced of an effect. I just bought a lifetime supply for 10 bucks!
I am definitely now convinced that common hormone and prohormone supplements are a viable source for dilution and use as pheromones, if you're willing to roll your own.
I'm going out to brunch with a single 12mcg spray of DHEA to the wrist.

Hi Salty,
To dissolve the DHEA, I emptied the capsule into a dropper bottle, added the oil, shook it very well, sat the bottle in a hot water bath, and continued to shake periodically. For best results I'd say give it a day or two of sitting around, and just shake it for a few seconds whenever you walk by, and re-heat your hot water bath whenever you get a chance.
There are extra fillers in the capsule that you will have to filter out after you have given the DHEA time to dissolve. I used a coffee filter, and it worked okay but not great. I'm hoping to think of a better solution for filtering the schmutz, so let me know if you think of one.
Also, if you use coconut oil make sure its fractionated coconut oil, not the whole coconut oil you can buy at the grocery store. That stuff is good to eat but will be greasy on the skin and probably wouldn't dissolve in alcohol very well. You could also dissolve the DHEA into DPG, jojoba, or perfumer's alcohol (or everclear if it's legal where you live. I can't get it in Chicago.)
