As far as being a rose scent, yes. Also Rose 31 by LeLabo
. Nothing I've come across is simular to Mayfair as far as scent goes.

I have not. Rose 31 was on my list as well.

Has anyone noticed strong similarities between karo karounde and copulins? Both have this overripe fruit thing going on. I need to be getting a full bottle of Timbuktu anyday now. Next paycheck will go towards a decant of Aventus (as reference for my own scent project), so that'll have to wait.

I didn't go all the way back through this thread, but I was just in Paris and stopped into the Creed shop a few blocks off the Champs Elysees massive shopping street.

I smelled everything they had for men.

The one I fell absolutely in love with was.....drum roll.....Bois du Portugal. Wow I love this smell.
Having to carry it on a flight I needed to stay under 3 oz so I bought the 2.5 oz bottle for 139 Euros (about $160). I also milked the hot smell girls into giving a shit ton of samples too.

Bois du Portugal smells fantastic!

I haven't smelled that in years! I had a small decant of it from The Perfumed Court and I agree that it is amazing! That is a scent worthy of replication from The Fragrance Shop for me. I might have to do that one. I MUCH prefer oils to sprays and their replications have been top notch for me. I got a few compliments on their Aventus just today.

Okay, that could justify a trip. Are you saying you got 75ml for $160? That's like half off.... were the samples 2ml vials or larger? I ask because totally love Aventus, OV and Erolfa. So I figure saving $140+ x3 plus get samples. Thats a no brainer. Heck, bring back Flacons and sell decants on this forum. DEAL!

Seriously what were the Flacon's going for? This is exciting news.

Yes for 75ml. Do the math on 139 Euros. The exchange rate is supposed to be $1.10 to 1 Euro, but the best I got was 14%-15% ($1.15 to 1 Euro). So that made my purchase about $160. I also picked up a 75ml GIT for my brother as a gift for the same price.

They were selling Aventus and Royal Oud for a little more, I think close to 180 Euro for the 75ml.

The next bigger size for the regular priced colognes was not that much more. The 120ml (4oz) was around 183 Euro. I was totally going to get it, but you can't fly with it. I don't remember the cost of flacons, but if you are honest and good at decanting, then that is probably a way to go. After selling enough, you may end up getting your product for free. One of the gals mentioned the price for something that they only sold in flacons and it wasn't bad at all. You just can't get on a plane with anything bigger than 3oz.

I bought my two bottles on different days, tactfully I might add, so I could scoop samples twice instead of just once. The samples have to be close to 5ml. At least 3-4ml each.

I ended up getting samples of:
Cedre Blanc
Green Irish Tweed x 3
Original Vetiver x2
Vetiver Geranium
Royal Mayfair x 2 (wearing right now)
Millesime Imperial x2
Aventus
Original Santal
Royal Oud (smashed on last flight)

These are the spray samples. I had bought some samples from The Fragrance Outlet and they are good, but you have to dab which really isn't a big deal. But these have little sprayers.

And Snoops...I am sure TFS would do a bang up job on the oil for Bois du Portugal. While I was in the duty free shop in Paris before flying, I smell a LOT of good colognes. Some I really wanted to smell for the first time that I had gotten oil samples from TFS. Tobacco Vanille, Tuscan Leather and several others were extremely close. As far as the Aventus oil goes, I prefer the Club de Nuit Intense from Armaf. It sounds crazy, but I think it smells BETTER than Aventus...blasphemy! Haha!

The Armaf Derby Club House is supposed to be a clone of Bois du Portgal. if anyone has smelled the two, I'd love to know how they compare.

Out of a whim I obtained some of the Dupes/No-Name perfumes that are most popular on various english and german perfume-forums or review websites.

Armaf I've got "Club House Blanche" - a well made Siver Mountain Water knock-off. I like it even better than SMW, which is not my favourite Creed to begin with. It's less sharp, metallic (Hedione) and smokier/frutier.

Also "Tag Him" by Armaf, a Bleu de Chanel Clone (BDC is a favourite of one of my brother`s, got it for him, don't like it personally).
Lighter, more lemony/citric than BDC, less incense. Again, I find the Armaf version more agreeabl than the original.
A very cheap clone "La Rive Best for men" did not convince me.

Dior Homme Sport and Dior Homme Cologne are two taples of mine.
"Linn Young Agent X sport" - very cheap but very close.
"La Rive Rock for men" - a bit off, but acceptable for the cheap price. Both are more in the vein of the 2008 than the current version of DHS.

For the cologne there is a supposedly well-made clone by spanish brand "Yodeyma" which is called "Ice for men", did not get my hand on it thus far.

There is a Dupe-Brand called Federico Mahora which makes high quality clones. The BDC (FM 327) is spot on, even in dry-down/development and lasts longer while costing only 1/3 of the original.
A DHS clone is coded as FM300.

So out of 3 dupe-focussed brands, 2 (Armaf and FM) delievered handsomely, while a third (La Rive) failed.
Armaf's approach seems to be more to produce interpretations and alter the originals a bit - in good ways as I've found, while FM seems to focus on exact copies but higher concentrated - again, succesful.
La Rive seems more like a poor rip-off/top-note replication that fades out quickly and seems distinctly synthetic.

The Linn Young product was quite good but faded quickly as well.

As soon as I get adecant of Bois du Portugal for cross-testing, I'll order the Armaf clone of that one

Focky,

Very helpful. I stated that I like the Armaf version (CDNI) of Aventus better than Aventus itself. I mean that. I am very glad to hear you say that you like the Derby Club House Blanche better than SMW! I am fond of SMW and have high hopes for it. I am going to get some now that I hear you say this. Because I believe it.

I don't know if you've smelled Bois du Portugal, but man it smells good, and distinct. It is right up there with Aventus in my opinion. I would love to hear the comparison to the Derby Club House from Armaf.

I had gotten my CDNI from Lily Direct and it was like $32. It appears now that all their Armafs are selling for around $70. Any advice where to still get Armafs in the $30 range?
