Theory about moths detecting pheromones long range

I was reading about Eric Laithwaite and flywheels and came upon this interesting theory that's been around for over a century, that moths may be able to detect pheromones from a long distance and not through smell but through infrared or antennae. If true about moths, it still may not apply to humans since people generally don't see infrared (there's recorded exceptions) and we don't have insect antennae. But I must say when reading the article I couldn't help but think about the saying: "that person is hot" P.
