The concept is pretty simple, steraloids has an index of information on every compound they sell, including atomic weights and spectrographs. Whatever is in the androtics putatives is something steraloids has on record.

So they can test the samples by GC/MS, or NMR - which will give them a number, atomic mass for instance. They then look at their index of compounds with that atomic mass, and boom, you've identified the compound.

if it's an isomer which has an identical atomic mass, they can examine it under plane polarized light to see which way it rotates, and hence whether it's the alpha or beta isomer.

Even if for some reason this doesn't go through me, I want this to be public information so anyone can send in a putative in to steraloids for analysis using the above method. Just get in touch with Trevor, their research chemist.

Mass spectrometry will identify the molecular weight of a compound with high accuracy. Once you know the molecular weight it's all over but the crying.

I wonder why nobody has tried this before.

Of course it'll go through you Chris, why else would I have called and asked you about it this morning? I didn't mention you because I didn't know if you'd want me to at this point.

As to cost breakdown per member, instead of the $15 - $40 example shown by dbot, I was hoping for more like 20 or 30 people chipping in $5-$7 each per molecule tested.

Think about it, if we could get 1/2 of our members to each chip in $10, we could identify 7 to 10 molecules.

And within a round or 2, everyone would have the actul molecular names of all their favorites.

that's great but not every one is interested in chipping in for the molecule they are not interested in. For me it's just TAA that i would like identified.

And I'd be willing to bet that there are those who don't care about what molecule TAA is.

This is a group effort, and for a fraction of the cost of trying to identify any molecule on your own, we can identify all the popular ones.

Oh and for those who aren't aware, the most common theory on the dienols is that
TAA = alpha-androstadienol and
TAC = beta-androstadienol

However, it is also possible from past reports that beta-dienol may be P74 and that TAA may be DHEA. Or, everything might be completely different! We'll find out in time

To be a devil's advocate, why would I pay my fair share for an analysis since I'm gonna find out what the P is anyway without paying? Where's my incentive to pay?

Is there going to be a part of the forum that's locked (like blind testing) to non-participants? If so, won't the information eventually trickle out anyway?

I guess those who participate/pay will have an incentive not to let the chemical name leak out right away, because that will insure more participants pay in round 2, which will lower the cost for all participants.

If we have a locked part of the forum, what will our rules be?
