Tongue Plant Sterol Aphrodisiacs - Beta-Sitosterol, Yohimbine Hydrochloride, & Biochanin A
08-01-2012 1:55 AM

I was looking at the internet. It just sat there, didn't do much.

this article got me thinking about Plant Sterols as Aphrodisiacs. Mostly because the article was about Plant Sterols acting as Aphrodisiacs in humans.

Have I got an herb for you!
Aphrodisiacs have been used worldwide since the dawn of human history. Researchers are just beginning to discover their chemical and physiological functions.

http://pubs.acs.org/subscribe/archive/ci...wartz.html

Quote:The plant "DAMIANA" contains "β-Sitosterol"
CAS# 84-46-5
Synonyms:
22,23-Dihydrostigmasterol,
Stigmast-5-en-3-ol,
β-Sitosterin

[Image: 1564schw1.gif]
β-Sitosterol is widely distributed in the plant kingdom and found in Nigella sativa, pecans, Serenoa repens (saw palmetto), avocados, Cucurbita pepo (pumpkin seed), Pygeum africanum, cashew fruit, rice bran, wheat germ, corn oils, soybeans, sea-buckthorn, wolfberries, and Wrightia tinctoria.

But there was a molecule:
CAS# 491-80-5
Biochanin A
synonyms:
Quote:[Image: 491-80-5.gif]
BIOCHANIN A;
5,7-dihydroxy-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4h-1-benzopyran-4-on;
5,7-dihydroxy-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4H-1-Benzopyran-4-one;
APIGENIN 4-METHYL ETHER;
5,7-DIHYDROXY-4'-METHOXYISOFLAVONE;
5,7-DIHYDROXY-4-METHOXYISOFLAVONE;
Genistein 4"²-methyl ether ;
5,7-dihydroxy-3-p-methoxyphenyl-4H-chromen-4-one

Biochanin A comes from RED CLOVER PLANT

also, plant sterols that are recommended as human aphrodisiacs:

campesterol (CAS# 474-62-4, Campestanol; (24R)-Ergost-5-en-3β-ol) Banana, pomegranate, pepper, coffee, grapefruit, cucumber, onion, oat, potato, and lemon grass (citronella) are few examples of common sources containing campesterol at ~1-7 mg/100 mg of the edible portion. In contrast canola and corn oil contain as much as 16-100 mg/100mg.

ergosterol (provitamin D2)
(ergosta-5,7,22-trien-3β-ol)
It is turned into viosterol by ultraviolet light, and is then converted into ergocalciferol, a form of vitamin D also known as D2

Don't these plant sterols and phytosterols look alot like some of the putative pheromone chemical structures?

It makes me wonder a little. Androtics Direct markets their Commercial Line and Putative PXXX series as using plant sterols to aid in diffusion. But IF they contain some of these plant sterols, could they in effect be saying that by mixing a putitive, with a well known plant sterol that acts as an aphrodisiac steroid, you can better bring out the aphrodisiac effect of the putative.

But what you may really see is, the aphrodisiac effect of the plant sterol, which is an aphrodisiac.

Stupid internet. I read an article, then another, then I put two peices of a puzzle together, then I post them as a coherent thought. This is probably why Androtics Direct erases/moderates my posts on their website sometimes and didn't send a free sample to me in my most recent order from them. I drink the stupid Kool-Aid, and then say, "Hey the blue fruit punch and the red fruit punch taste the same."

My "Blueberry Scent" that I created in May 2012 :

40 drops Damiana essential oil
10 drops Canadian Catnip essential oil (they say the Indian one doesn't work)
10 drops Neroli 5% essential oil

2,5 ml Iso-E Super
4 pellets Lauricidin
About 7 ml Perfumers Alcohol (fill it up)

Put it in a 10 ml spray and let it age a few days

The ladies like it, it lasts forever, smells a bit like blueberries.
Don't know about the effects though, I used it as a coverscent.

Edit : I only did 2 versions of it and it might be tried without the Neroli and with less Iso-E. It might very well have aphrodisiac effects, I just never tried it isolated...

For what it's worth; beta sitosterol is notable for behaving in the body like finesteride/propecia (finesteride is the stuff that is supposed to prevent hair loss.) In short, it prevents testosterone from converting into DHT. DHT is a a powerful androgen which also causes hair loss. (Merck seems to play down the benefits of DHT since they sell a pill which tries to prevent its creation, so be careful of popular sources on this topic.)

I've heard it said (not sure how reliable the information was) that some men's sex drive works off of DHT, some off of T and some off of both. If someone's body relied primarily on DHT, the stuff could kill their sex drive. If their sex drive relied on T, it would boost it. If it relied on both... who knows?

Are there certain instances where you'd WANT to reduce conversion of T to DHT for social reasons? Maybe. I'd be interested to hear that argument. Perhaps, you could cause someone to build up a stockpile of T which would be converted to DHT when the beta sitosterol wore off?

Though given that the primary conversion sites for T -> DHT are the scalp and prostate in men (And beta-sitosterol doesn't seem to even reach the prostate in significant quantities), I don't know if pheromonal effects would even interfere with its activity. I suppose that COULD change things entirely.

This could all be pointless speculation, of course. Let me know if your results say something else. I'm just trying to guess what the effects might be based on the published lit.

I tried yohimbe a while back as a pheromone and got no results. But that was a very early attempt and I looked mainly for self effects. Perhaps I didn't dilute it enough and that over-wrote the signal the way that too high of a dose can. Of course, I got no results taking the stuff orally either, so I could just be immune to it, personally. Or maybe I got a bad batch of the stuff. It'd be good to test on others who have benefited from taking the stuff orally. People who are personally immune to alpha androstenol seem less likely to get social benefits from it as well.

Testosterone

Edti: You know, thinking it through and I really can't guess what the pheromonal effect of finesteride or beta sitosterol will be based on the systemic effect since I doubt much of the stuff will reach the scalp which seems to be beta sitosterol's primary target (or scalp and prostate for finesteride.)

11-Beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase inhibitors seem to work pheromonally. I'll have to see which tissues produce that. If they're far afield from the brain, perhaps beta-sitosterol will behave like it does in the body.

Is there any market for pheromones which prevent people from behaving sexually or that reduced sex drive? Maybe some women would favor that if they were getting unwanted attention. A sort of "down boy" mone... noone's ever asked for it, though. It would filter out a certain type of guy. The high testosterone types would be most strongly affected. There's an interesting social experiment...

wiserd,
the Yohimbe effect you got may have been subdued compared to the effect of Yohimbine Hypochloride, or other ingredients that are naturally in yohimbe may act counter the pheromone effects of Yohimbine Hypochloride, since it it makes up only ~6% of yohimbe.

I have read that Testosterone is very pheromonally active, and acts as an aphrodisiac (joke: combine maniac/dizzy/afro hair do = aphrodisiac)
And that free Testosterone is readily available in saliva, verses SHBG bound Testosterone or Albumin bound testosterone. And if it's in saliva, you are exhaling it every time you breath, so constantly. And since it acts pheromonally, if you got more on your breath/saliva, you may be more attractive and a better kisser.

Testosterone supplements will also raise libido in women. Maybe not to the level of Anabolic Steroid levels that are taken in ~100mg levels, but in much lower levels that are closer to the bodies natural levels.

Female Testosterone serum levels (average of some sort) 250 - 850 pg/mL
Male under 50 years Testosterone serum levels (average of some sort) 2,900 - 12,000 pg/mL
Male over 50 years Testosterone serum levels (average of some sort) 1,800 - 7,500 pg/mL
Male DHT serum levels (average of some sort) 300 - 850 pg/mL

Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG): Most testosterone circulating in the bloodstream is bound to either sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) (60%) or albumin (38%). Only a small fraction (2%) is unbound, or "free". (Morales et al 2010).

albumin is ~60,000g/mol

so with a huge range of 4-6L of blood in a person.
20pg = .000000020g
4L = 4000mL
20pg * 4L = 80mcg of Free testosterone in an small man
25pg * 4L = 100mcg of Free testosterone in an small man

25pg * 6L = 150mcg of Free testosterone in an large man

If there was a food/vitamin/drug that would free the innactive testosterone, then you would probably get a big effect there too.

I'm thinking, pheromone chapstick for men, and at levels of 1mcg/application might work with testosterone.

okay,
a little more research on the internet leads down another rabbit trail.
The 3 plant sterols:
β-Sitosterol
campesterol
stigmasterol

are precurser molecules for the human steroid Boldenone (CAS# 846-48-0).
[Image: 320px-Boldenone.png]

[Not to be confused with Boldenone Undecylenate
Quote:Boldenone Undecylenate (CAS# 13103-34-9) aka (1,4-androstadiene-3-one-17β-ol, available as the undecylenate ester), also known under the trade names Equipoise, Ganabol, Equigan and Ultragan]

[Image: 13103-34-9.png]
Boldenone is an endogenous hormone/steroid in the human body.

after reading this article:
http://www.hdb.ugent.be/HDB/Publications...necol).pdf
Excretion of endogenous boldione in human urine: Influence of phytosterol consumption [Journal of Steroid Biochemistry & Molecular Biology 117 (2009) 8"“14]

it seems that ingested phytosterols contribute to an increase in urine levels of Boldione (androst-1,4-diene-3,17-dione, ADD) which is the direct precursor to Boldenone.

As an excreted human hormone coming from the endocrine excretion called pee, boldenone, although banned for its use as an anobolic steroid may have a place in the natural chain of pheromones and their activities of attraction.

Just find a way to excrete your own.

RE: Plant Sterol Aphrodisiacs - β-Sitosterol, Yohimbine Hydrochloride, & Biochanin A

This suggests that beta sitosterol might increase anxiety. It's a long shot since it exerts its effects in the body primarily by inhibiting an enzyme (5-alpha reductase) rather than activating or blocking a receptor. If it DID work pheromonally, that would say a LOT about the mechanism by which pheromones worked.

Quote:Several studies have shown the influence of the oestrous cycle on anxiety levels and the important role of progesterone in this effect. The metabolism of this steroid hormone yields neuroactive steroids among them allopregnanolone (alloP) and allotetrahydrodeoxycorticosterone (alloTHDOC), which bind to GABAA receptors and have anxiolytic effects. Considering that during pregnancy there is an increase in levels of both progesterone and its metabolites, the main objectives of this work were: (1) to assess changes in anxiety levels during pregnancy and (2) to verify the role of alloP and alloTHDOC in this process using finasteride, an inhibitor of 5alpha-reductase, the enzyme responsible for their synthesis. The results showed a significant reduction in anxiety levels on the 19th day of pregnancy, which was reversed by finasteride, suggesting a role for alloP and alloTHDOC in the anxiolytic process.
